They were a five-piece hip-hop band with strong funk overtones, making tracks and playing shows in the mid-90s in the Philadelphia area. One day upon reviewing some tracks the band had put together over previous years, the idea was born to just release the instrumentals as a fake 'compilation', done so due to the tracks' diverse nature. Made-up band names were hatched and Big Pimp's Kung Fu Studio was born (taking inspiration from the 70s playset "Big Jim's Kung Fu Studio"). In the meantime the band renamed themselves Big Pimp Jones, combining the record's title with Kung Fu Flick "Black Belt Jones". The band released independent records over the next few years, but the earlier compilation caught the attention and the ears of Adrian Gibson, A&R for Freestyle records. The compilation of fake singles in 2001 yielded real Freestyle 45s from assumed band names, both of which sold out and led to a full-length album on Freestyle Records, the soundtrack to the imaginary film "Bad Bad Jimmy Ruckus".

Bad Bad Jimmy Ruckus released in late 2009, a full-length effort of instrumental funk and breakbeats that fooled many into thinking it was a real lost soundtrack from the 70s. Plus it still got respect from people that saw right through the facade. On the heels of Bad Bad Jimmy Ruckus the band released a single with Skeme Richards on Record Breakin', providing tracks as the 'Hot Peas and Butta band' for the 45 of the same name (2010). On the heels of that release the band also released a single and follow-up album on Freestyle Records, "Jimmy Ruckus and the Five Fingers of Death".

Over the course of the last two years, the band reached their current lineup: Keith (vocals and guitar), Frank (drums) and Chris (bass). They also developed a working relationship with Mr.Jason of BreakThruRadio - he served as producer for a live-in-the-studio-recording at the end of 2009 and produced two studio sessions for the band in 2010, the results of which will be released soon. The band is currently working toward more music to be released on both Record Breakin' and Freestyle.
